Melvin L. Ford, III, DDS
Dr. Melvin L. Ford III has been a partner with Oral Surgery of Tidewater since 1995. Dr. Ford is from Richmond, Virginia and is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where he received a BS with honors in chemistry. Dr. Ford received his DDS from the Medical College of Virginia in 1982. He completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1990 from the United States Air Force Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He has been appointed to the position of Assistant Clinical Professor in the department of Otolaryngology (ENT / Head and Neck Surgery) at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Ford is well educated to render appropriate oral care to the geriatric population. He has special interests to include Obstructive Sleep Apnea and coordinated orthodontic surgical care.
Dr. Ford is the past director of the department of Oral Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is currently assistant professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a member of numerous local and national medical and dental societies.
Dr. Ford is a retired Captain in the U.S. Navy (reserve component) and U.S. Air Force (active component). He was mobilized during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He provided extensive care to our troops since joining the military in 1982.
He and his family are members of Great Bridge Baptist Church, where he is active in the church orchestra. He enjoys playing music (Saxophone) and running.
